Terms of use
Short, because there is not much to say. Please read it anyway.
What Local Reports is
Local Reports is a free service for residents of Bury to report problems in public places (potholes, fly-tipping, broken lights, and the like) to their Reform UK ward councillor, who raises them with Bury Council and chases them. It is run by Cllr George Martin and operated by Cestrian Digital Ltd on behalf of the Reform UK group on Bury Council. It is not a Bury Council service, and it is not an emergency service: if something is dangerous right now, call the council's emergency line or 999.
What we ask of you
Keep reports about places, not people. In particular, please do not:
- name, describe or photograph individuals, or include faces, house numbers of other people's homes, or vehicle registrations;
- accuse a named person or business of anything, even if you are sure;
- post anything abusive, threatening, discriminatory or obscene;
- use the service for campaigning, advertising or anything unrelated to a local issue;
- file reports you know to be false, or duplicate reports to push an issue up the list;
- create more than one account, or an account for someone else.
You must be 16 or over to create an account. What you write and any photos you attach are seen by your councillor, their support team and Bury Council, not by other residents. The Nearby map shows signed-in residents only the pin, the type of issue, the street and the status, never the house number and never who filed it.
Your reports and photos
What you write and the photos you attach stay yours. By filing a report you give Cestrian Digital Ltd and the councillors who use the service permission to show it to them and their support team, to edit it for clarity or to remove personal details, to show its pin, type, street and status to other residents, and to pass it to Bury Council and its contractors so the problem can be fixed. That permission is free, worldwide and does not expire while the report exists, and you cannot withdraw it for a report that has already been sent to the council. You can ask us to delete a report at any time; see the privacy notice for what happens to photos.
What we may do with a report
Councillors and the people who support them can change a report's status, merge duplicates, edit descriptions, and reject a report, which takes it off the Nearby map. Reports that should never have been filed (abuse, test reports, or content we must not keep) may be deleted permanently without notice. We may block an account that breaks these terms; a blocked account keeps its existing reports but cannot file new ones, and we will tell you why if you ask.
If a report is about you
Reports are about public places and the Nearby map shows only a street, but if you believe a report has been made about your home or business unfairly, email privacy@localreports.co.uk with the street or the report reference. We will look at it as soon as possible and tell you what we decided.
What we do not promise
Filing a report is not a promise that the council will act, or act by a particular date. Councillors do their best to chase issues, but the council decides what it fixes and when. We aim to keep the service running but it may be unavailable from time to time, and we may change or withdraw it. We are not responsible for loss arising from relying on the service, or from anything another user posts. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that the law does not allow us to limit.
Everything else
Your data is handled as described in the privacy notice, which forms part of these terms. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If we change them in a way that matters, we will tell you by email before the change takes effect. Questions to hello@localreports.co.uk.
